MAXXI in Rome presents from May 3 to 28, 2023, the exhibition Surrounded by Far by German artist Dieter Nuhr. Dedicated to the scenic beauty of our planet, the exhibition is a tale of a journey that invites and inspires dreaming, through photography, digital painting and drawings.

His photography-based digital paintings show the world, captured by the camera, in a veiled, color-rich state of memory in which the real place has dissolved with the passage of time and increasing distance. Nuhr’s artistic focus is thus not only on the question of what is, but, rather, on theemphasis of what remains.

After exhibitions in Hagen (GE), Venice (IT), and Dakar (SN), the German artist now dialogues with Rome, the eternal city, and brings his cultural impressions, depicted in landscapes, architecture, and people he has encountered both in his home region (the Ruhr) and in his world travels, to Rome.
