At Mart, historical duo Gianikian and Ricci Lucchi recount the dramas of the 20th century

Diaries. Yervant Gianikian Angela Ricci Lucchi will be the next exhibition at Mart in Rovereto, open to the public from February 22 to May 31, 2020.

In the early 2000s, the Mart began an important collaboration with Yervant Gianikian (Merano, 1942) and Angela Ricci Lucchi (Lugo di Romagna, 1942 - Milan, 2018), winners of the 2015 Golden Lion at the Venice Art Biennale.

In the last decades of their artistic careers, the historic duo aimed to investigate the great dramas of the 20th century, such as diasporas, wars and genocides, starting from a reinterpretation of found films and archival materials.

The museum’s collections have just been enriched by The Angela Diaries. Us Filmmakers. Chapter Two (2019): this is an account of the complex and personal filmmaking experience with which Yervant Gianikian and Angela Ricci Lucchi narrated the most tragic stories of the 20th century.

The latest work to join the Trentino museum will dialogue in the exhibition with the Triptych of the 20th Century (2002-2008): a video installation co-produced by the Mart, presented to the public in 2008 and remounted for the occasion in the spaces on the second floor.
