At MANN the largest exhibition ever held in Italy dedicated to Moebius

The MANN - National Archaeological Museum of Naples presents from April 30 to September 7, 2020 the largest exhibition ever held in Italy dedicated to Moebius.

The MANN-National Archaeological Museum of Naples welcomes from April 30 to September 7, 2020 the largest exhibition ever held in Italy dedicated to Jean Henri Gaston Giraud (Nogent-sur-Marne, 1938 - Paris, 2012), better known as Moebius.

Promoted by Moebius Production and curated by COMICON, under the patronage of the Campania Region, the City of Naples and the Institut Français de Naples, Moebius - In Search of Time presents one of the most important French cartoonists and illustrators and author of world-famous visionary works such as Blueberry, Arzach, The Hermetic Garage or L’incal.
Italy and Naples often feature prominently in his works, as in See Naples and Die and Then See Naples.

Visitors will learn about Moebius’ imaginative world through comic panels, sketches, paintings, watercolors, reproductions and augmented reality, photographs, volumes and magazines.

“Riding pterodactyls around fantastic sceneries or moving inside huge dinosaur carcasses, in a time that contemplates a future to the past, references to civilizations that were, surviving relics of ancient technological worlds is not a mere dream dimension: it is a concrete experience that can be had by delving into Moebius’ comic book plates. For the second year, after the extraordinary Hugo Pratt exhibition dedicated to Corto Maltese, MANN and COMICON, as part of the Obvia Project, decided to present another comic book giant to the general public. There was no more auspicious occasion than the opening of the Prehistory section to do so,” said MANN Director Paolo Giulierini.

“When Jean Giraud became Moebius,” added COMICON general director Claudio Curcio, “the whole world of comics finally had an awareness of the true potential of this medium, and it is also and above all thanks to authors like him that today comics have their place among the major forms of Art and Expression. Twenty years after the last time his work was exhibited in Naples, we are proud to be able to offer the MANN public an exceptional exhibition through the works of one of the greatest Artists of the 20th century.”

The exhibition is accompanied by the catalog Moebius - In Search of Time with previously unpublished texts signed by experts such as Luca Boschi and Ferruccio Giromini, as well as foreign voices such as Patrick Blumel, who oversaw the elaboration of the augmented realities.
The exhibition is promoted as part of the Obvia - Out of Boundaries viral art dissemination project.
