MAN in Nuoro welcomes from March 21 to June 15, 2025 the exhibition Gregorio Botta. Silence is So Accurate, curated by Chiara Gatti and Elisabetta Masala. An unprecedented project that explores the themes of balance and silence. Inspired by a phrase by Mark Rothko, the artist constructs a rarefied space in which materials and forms dialogue in a poetic and minimal way.
Botta combines iron, glass, alabaster and dried flowers to create intimate landscapes, architectures made of transparencies, reflections and delicate signs, references to everyday iconographies, objects, symbols, allegories of an existence stitched on waxed paper, which wears out, wears down and transfigures in anticipation. His works manifest themselves as ephemeral presences, plays of light and matter that evoke the passage of time and the precariousness of existence.
In this research on the threshold between visible and invisible, the imprint becomes a symbol of memory in the Pompeii series, while the weight of smoke is survival of matter in the work that gives the exhibition its title. Molten wax takes on archetypal forms, evoking Giorgio Morandi’s geometries, while in the Horizons cycle, a crystal plane stretches to infinity, suggesting a transition between contingency and the immaterial.
The exhibition unfolds as a contemplative experience, in which epiphanies and disappearances, secrets and imperceptible revelations follow one another in an attempt to achieve an art of taking away, to the extreme limit of an art that dissolves and leaves only its vibration.
