At Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro the first Italian solo exhibition of Rebecca Ackroyd

From December 4, 2019 to January 31, 2020, the Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro is hosting Rebecca Ackroyd's first solo exhibition in Italy, Underfoot.

The Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation ’s Project Room closes 2019 with its third and final exhibition of the year: Underfoot by Rebecca Ackroyd (Cheltenham, 1987). In fact, from December 4, 2019, to January 31, 2020, her first solo exhibition in Italy will be held, falling within the framework of artists under 40 who investigate sculpture in innovative ways.

Following the projects of Sophia al-Maria and Caroline Mesquita, Rebecca Ackroyd stages a post-apocalyptic world that leads the visitor into a hypothetical future. The artist has reconstructed degraded spaces, with real atmospheres, with the intention of raising awareness of the brutality of the urban environment and consciousness of the theme of abandonment.

Inside a greenhouse, he placed a large site-specific installation occupying the entire space of the Foundation and a series of drawings and sculptures, creating an enveloping place between dream and reality.

Ackroyd’s architectural structures represent a kind of primal feeling that generates in the viewer a sense of helplessness and prompts him to question his role in society. Through Underfoot, the focus of focuses on a hybrid definition of home, which can lead to reflection on universal themes such as national identity, sense of belonging and growth processes.
