From May 11 to Sept. 15, 2018, it will be possible to see Michelangelo Antonioni ’s short film “Lo sguardo di Michelangelo” at the Crypt of the Holy Sepulcher in Milan. The short film, made by the director from Ferrara a few years before his death, sees Antonioni himself admiring Michelangelo Buonarroti’s Moses, a sculpture preserved in the basilica of San Pietro in Vincoli in Rome, and, even reaching out his hand until he touches the statue.
The initiative, which also includes an exhibition of photographic portraits of Moses made by Aurelio Amendola, is curated by Giuseppe Frangi, produced Milanocard and Casa Testori, and promoted by the Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana, under the patronage of theMichelangelo Antonioni Association,in collaboration with the Lombardy Region and the City of Milan.
"This place makes Milan as unique as Jerusalem because they are the only two cities to have at their center a holy sepulcher the chance to watch Antonioni’s short film also offers the reflection of the importance of looking at the work of art:from seeing to looking by lingering," said Francesco Braschi, director of the Biblioteca Ambrosiana.
Hours: daily from 5 to 10 p.m. Visits start every hour. Admission costs 10 euros, and 50 percent of the proceeds will go toward restoration work on the crypt. Every weekend there are guided tours at night from 10 p.m. at a cost of 21 euros per person (including access to the crypt + short film + exhibition of Amendola’s photographs).
