Antonio Ligabue will be the protagonist of an anthological exhibition to be held in the Scuderie del Castello Visconteo in Pavia from March 17 to June 18, 2017.
The exhibition will offer a narrative of the life and artistic career of Ligabue, one of the most original creative minds of the Italian twentieth century, in an itinerary of more than fifty works that will include paintings, sculptures, drawings and engravings.
The main themes of the exhibition will be animals, captured in their wild or domestic character, and self-portraits: thus, there will be no shortage of depictions of ferocious felines, such as tigers or leopards, and cockfights, as well as the Self-portrait with motorcyclist’s cap of 1954-55 and the Self-portrait of 1957.
After exhibitions in Gualtieri, Palermo and Rome, this anthological exhibition in Pavia aims to reaffirm Antonio Ligabue’s art, going beyond definitions of naïve or mad artist.
The exhibition is curated by Sandro Parmiggiani and Sergio Negri in collaboration with Simona Bartolena, and is produced and organized by ViDi, in collaboration with the City of Pavia and the Antonio Ligabue Foundation of Gualtieri.
The catalog is published by Skira.
Educational activities and child-friendly guided tours are also planned.
