Animalist Design: new furniture by Giovanni Raspini on display in Cortona

From Sept. 8 to Sept. 19, the Renaissance cloister of Sant'Agostino in Cortona will display designer furniture from Giovanni Raspini's Animalist Design line: pieces inspired by the world of animals and nature.

It is titled Animalist Design the exhibition that the famous jewelry brand Giovanni Raspini is opening, from September 8 to 19, at the cloister of the church of Sant’Agostino in Cortona. After the Tuscan brand exhibited its designer furniture at Fuorisalone 2023, now Design’s creations are therefore arriving in the ancient Etruscan city, where they will be on display free of charge every day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Animalist Design offers furniture and design creations with the aim of expressing all the elements associated with the concept of excellence. Artifacts made of iron, bronze and other materials, united by a sense of contemporaneity and innovation, while never renouncing the noble link with the great Tuscan craft tradition. A creative “container” that wishes to enhance the work of artists and craftsmen. Under the artistic direction of designer and architect Giovanni Raspini, with the collaboration of Lucio Minigrilli and Erika Corsi, the dream world of Animalist Design wants to shape matter to give new perspectives to everyday living.

“Beyond the traditional marriage of form and function,” says Giovanni Raspini, “we want to propose works that arise from a structured and identity-driven project. Tables, mirrors, console tables, sideboards and furniture complements under the banner of a classical and elegant, sometimes even provocative, contemporaneity. Artifacts made with the lost-wax casting technique or forged in metal. Each work has its own individuality and is created according to an autonomous project: like the decorations, first molded in wax and then cast in bronze, the metal of eternity. A technique that has over two thousand years of history and still boasts its relevance and reason for being.”

Each piece of furniture, enhanced in form by the chiaroscuro of the workmanship and the chromatic patinas of the metals that compose it, finds its own expressive autonomy in a play of sculptural volumes and forms with a dry and formal linearity. Among the sources of inspiration there is always an organic, naturalistic or rather “animalier” component, linked to still life themes or symbolic representations of animals: iguanas, mice, bees, bats, insects, corals and shells. All with plastic and stylistic rendering bordering on virtuosity, with a real openness to the design dialogue that characterizes these our years and in line with the deeper identity of the brand, from jewelry to homeware.
