From June 12 to July 31, 2022, Villa Gennaioli in Anghiari is dedicating a group exhibition to Margherita Hack (Florence, 1922 - Trieste, 2013) to mark the centenary of the birth of the world-renownedastrophysicist. Anghiari under a starry dome, this is the title of the exhibition, welcomes eighty artists from all over Italy to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Margherita Hack’s birth. Curated by Mariangela Baldi, the exhibition event is organized by the cultural association Art-Ecò under the patronage of the Municipality of Anghiari, Province of Arezzo, Tuscany Region, Soroptimist International and Nuovo Gruppo Astrofili Arezzo. And it is made possible thanks to the contribution of Banca di Anghiari e Stia Credito Cooperativo and Busatti - Weavers in Tuscany since 1842.
The exhibition is proposed as a group show of painting, sculpture and ceramics in which eighty artists from all regions of Italy express their emotions when confronted with the life and career of the famous Florentine astrophysicist. Those on display in the various floors and rooms of Villa Gennaioli, a splendid mansion recovered thanks to the collaboration between Fondazione Gennaioli and Banca di Anghiari e Stia Credito Cooperativo to make it a “house of the arts” and a cultural space of reference for the Valtiberina, are heterogeneous works, created with various techniques and styles.
Throughout its duration, the exhibition will be enriched by collateral initiatives that will feature women who have distinguished themselves in the scientific field. Themed evenings, meetings and conferences are planned.
The official opening of the group show will take place on Sunday, June 12, at 6 p.m., in the presence of Anghiari Mayor Alessandro Polcri, Tourism and Productive Activities Councillor Ilaria Lorenzini, Culture Councillor Alberica Barbolani da Montauto, Banca di Anghiari e Stia Credito Cooperativo President Paolo Sestini and INAF researcher from the Arcetri Astrophysical Observatory Laura Magrini.
For the occasion, the Nuovo Gruppo Astrofili Arezzo will display a scale reproduction of Saturn V, the rocket used by Nasa in the Apollo programs, and will create a station in the Villa Gennaioli park for people to safely observe our star through a solar telescope.
The exhibition will be open on Saturdays and Sundays, from 3 to 7:30 p.m., with free admission. On other days there will be guided tours by appointment.
