Angelo Morbelli. The poem of old age: reassembled after more than a century the entire pictorial cycle


From Oct. 20, 2018, to Jan. 6, 2019, Ca' Pesaro dedicates an exhibition to Divisionist master Angelo Morbelli. Recomposed entire painting cycle after more than a century.

The Ca’ Pesaro International Gallery of Modern Art in Venice is hosting from October 20, 2018 to January 6, 2019 the exhibition"Angelo Morbelli. The Poem of Old Age."

On this occasion it will be possible to admire, after more than a century, the entire recomposed pictorial cycle"The Poem of Old Age" by the Divisionist master Angelo Morbelli (Alessandria, 1854 - Milan 1919).
A cycle of six canvases that was presented in 1903 at the 5th International Art Exhibition in Venice.
These six paintings are set in the Pio Albergo Trivulzio in Milan, the city’s largest shelter for indigent elderly people: Il Natale dei rimasti, Vecchie calzette, Mi ricordo quand’ero fanciulla, Siesta invernale, Sedia vuota and I due inverni.



The artist analyzes the psychological mechanisms of the melancholy rituality of the hospitalized.

The recomposition of the entire pictorial cycle is made possible by the return to Europe of Old Socks, the only painting that has never been exhibited to the public since 1906.

The exhibition is curated by Giovanna Ginez with the support of Cornèr Bank, Lugano.
