Yesterday, the exhibition “Andy Warhol. The Art of Being Famous,” scheduled from today, Oct. 19, 2017, until Jan. 7, 2018.
The exhibition showcases a wide selection of works by the celebrated Pop Art artist from the Rosini Gutman Collection in Riccione, Italy.
There are more than 150 pieces including multiples, one-of-a-kind pieces and objects made in his most important years: from 1957 to 1987. The collection reflects a particular vision of the artist’s oeuvre, presenting famous works such as Campbell’s Soup Can, Fiori, Marilyn, Mick Jagger, Liza Minnelli, and Joseph Beuys, alongside others less known to the general public, which represent the most intimate and personal part of his research, close in sensitivity to the European matrix.
Also on display at the Palazzo Sant’Elia are images of some of Andy Warhol’s personal documents: from his passport to one of his first report cards, the hospitalization sheet after the June 3, 1968 attack (feminist and “Factory” frequenter Valerie Solanas shot him and his then partner, Mario Amaya, both of whom survived, however, sustaining serious injuries), some work tools and several valuable books, such as the“Index Book,” signed by Warhol himself.
In a room that is part of the exhibition itinerary, documentary films and art videos about the artist and the Factory will be shown. Also set up is a bookshop that becomes in turn, an art space; and a graphic design workshop for children, open to schools.
In recent years the Andy Warhol Collection has been exhibited in numerous cities in Italy and abroad, such as Andorra, Germany, Monaco, San Marino, Spain, Switzerland and Taiwan.
