An unprecedented exhibition on Miró at the Regional Archaeological Museum in Aosta

The Regional Archaeological Museum in Aosta is hosting an unprecedented exhibition dedicated to Joan Miró until October 1, 2023, which aims to highlight the artist's threefold moral commitment: respect for nature, political freedom and innovation in artistic language.

Until October 1, 2023, the Regional Archaeological Museum of Aosta is hosting the exhibition Joan Miró. It is when I dream that I see clearly, curated by Josep Maria Camps Codina.

The unprecedented exhibition aims to delineate the figure of the artist-man, touching on the peculiarities of his persona, from his ecological convictions to his commitment to the anti-fascist struggle, from his very strong need for freedom to his rebellion against all forms of tyranny to his ability to interweave arts as far apart as poetry, sculpture, theater and photography.

The sections of the exhibition highlight Miró’s threefold moral commitment: respect for nature, political freedom, and innovation in artistic language, themes chosen by the Scientific Committee whose members include Riccardo Auci, Andrea Filippo Cremonesi, Enrique Longinotti, Daria Jorioz, Josep Maria Camps Codina, Josep Massot, and Paula Virginia Serè Villarino.

In the different sections there are sculptures, oils, the puppets of Mori el Merma (Death to the Puppet), the 1978 play, but also thirteen famous artist’s books and four video interviews, made especially for this exhibition, with people who knew or worked with the artist: his nephew Joan Punyet Miró, Rosa Malet, Colita, and Joan Baixas.

The works inside the rooms of the Archaeological Museum of Aosta were kindly provided by various institutions, such as the Fundació Pilar and Joan Miró de Mallorca, the Museu Es Baluard d’Art Contemporani de Palma, the Diputació d’Alacant, Harvard Art Museums de US, the Fondo Familial de Succesió Miró, and by private collectors.

The audiovisual material and photographs are part of the historical archives of the COAC-Col-legi d’Arquitectes de Catalunya, the Arxiu Nacional de Catalunya, the Fundació Joan Miró of Barcelona, the Centro Documental de la Memoria Histórica of Salamanca, the Foundation Ernst Scheidegger archive, the MAE-Centre de Documentació i Museu de les Arts Escèniques de Catalunya, the Archivo de Fotografía Colita, and Film59.

The exhibition is accompanied by a bilingual Italian-French catalog published by Dario Cimorelli Editore with essays by Josep Maria Camps Codina, Daria Jorioz, Enrique Longinotti and Josep Massot.
