An exhibition on Louise Nevelson in Ascona with more than eighty works

From Oct. 2 to Jan. 8, 2023, the Ascona Municipal Museum is hosting a retrospective exhibition on Louise Nevelson entitled 'My Way of Thinking is Collage': displaying more than 80 works by the American but Ukrainian-born artist.

The Municipal Museum in Ascona, Switzerland, is hosting a major retrospective of Louise Nevelson (Leah Berliawsky; Kiev, 1899 - New York, 1988), among the greatest representatives of 20th-century sculpture, from October 2, 2022 to January 8, 2023. The exhibition, organized by the Municipal Museum of Ascona in collaboration with the Marconi Foundation of Milan, and titled My way of thinking is collage, is curated by Mara Folini and Allegra Ravizza and presents more than eighty works that trace the poetics of the American artist, but Ukrainian by birth, to which is added a section with historical, documentary and educational material to help understand the evolution of Louise Nevelson’s creative thought.

The exhibition is built around a nucleus of works ranging from the rare drawings of the 1930s to the famous, black and monumental “sculpture-assemblages” of the 1960s and 1970s, which dialogue with a selection of more than sixty collages, the result of her most intimate research, developed over a period of thirty years, from 1956 to 1986. These works are a kind of laboratory of ideas, in-progress experimentation, techniques, materials, and especially the recycling of randomly found and freely transformed everyday objects , bearers of memory and history, and testify to the vast artistic horizon within which Louise Nevelson elaborates the abstract results of the historical avant-gardes and the work of her contemporaries, both on a technical and conceptual level.
