From February 17 to March 30, 2023, the Ferrero Foundation in Alba welcomes a new exhibition project, dedicated to the great photographer Jacques Henri Lartigue (Courbevoie, 1894 - Nice, 1986). Entitled The Invention of Happiness, the exhibition is curated by Denis Curti, Marion Perceval and Charles-Antoine Revol of the Donation Jacques Henri Lartigue and produced in collaboration with the Casa dei Tre Oci in Venice and the Donation Jacques Henri Lartigue in Paris.
After the Venetian success obtained at the Casa dei Tre Oci and the subsequent tour at a number of Italian exhibition venues, such as the Museo Diocesano in Milan and the WeGil in Rome, the largest retrospective ever dedicated in Italy to the brilliant Belle Époque photographer arrives in the heart of the Langhe, in Alba. With an installation designed especially for the spaces of the Ferrero Foundation, the exhibition includes a previously unpublished photographic nucleus dedicated to the Piedmontese frequentations of Lartigue and his wife Florette Ormea, granted exclusively for this exhibition by the Donation Jacques Henri Lartigue in Paris.
Lartigue’s work is characterized by its humanist approach, focusing on the narrative of the private dimension, on those moments of happiness that constitute daily life. “The Invention of Happiness” is just that: the ability to hold it, crystallize it and return to look at it whenever one wishes, perhaps within one of the 120 family albums made by the author during his lifetime.
