From July 20 to October 2022, the Ballroom of the Correr Museum in Venice will host the exhibition Venice in the Photographs of Massimo Listri, which showcases the shots of photographer Massimo Listri (Florence, 1953).Listri’s images are intended to offer a unified and coherent look at the architectural monumentality of today’s Venetian civic museum spaces, the beauty of its halls, some of which have recently been restored, the long airy passages of the museum, and the exhibition itineraries that are always capable of continuous surprises.

Listri aims to reveal the soul of the places, the density of light and color that pervades them during the different hours of the day. An eye imbued with art history but at the same time aiming at a synthesis of the sometimes even excessive proliferation of decorations and architecture in the majestic halls. The introduction to the catalog by Director Gabrielli Belli reads, “Massimo Listri, among the most important Italian photographers, has been for our Foundation this eye, generous and unpredictable even in the mode of his work, in a relationship of great simplicity with space: his secret is largely contained in natural light, which eschews complicity with artifice and overly sophisticated technologies, although in postproduction his skillful hand does not disdain focus and perspective cuts that fully fulfill his desire to create with photography ’a work of art in the work of art.’ From this extraordinary eye of his came hundreds of images that finally give us back, thanks to his unmistakable figure, a unified idea of the multiplicity and disciplinary complexity that characterize our collections and exhibition spaces, a restitution of unprecedented views capable of astonishing even those who, like us, confront the museum’s halls every day.”

The exhibition can be visited with a single ticket for the Museums of St. Mark’s Square (valid for access to the Doge’s Palace, Correr Museum, National Archaeological Museum, Monumental Rooms of the Marciana National Library). Full 25 euros, reduced 13 euros. For info and reservations, www.correr.visitmuve.it.
