At Palazzo Cipolla in Rome, the exhibition London Calling: British Contemporary Art Now is on view until July 17, 2022. From David Hockney to Idris Khan, which brings together over thirty works by thirteen major British artists from different generations. Artists born over five decades, between 1937 and 1978, for whose artistic careers the city of London has played a very important role, either because they were born there, or went there during their training, or moved there later to be close to major galleries and museums: David Hockney, Michael Craig-Martin, Sean Scully, Tony Cragg, Anish Kapoor, Julian Opie, Grayson Perry, Yinka Shonibare, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Damien Hirst, Mat Collishaw, Annie Morris, and Idris Khan.
Starting with the eldest, David Hockney, and ending with the youngest, Idris Khan, the exhibition offers a cross-section of thecurrent London art scene through a series of iconic works selected by curators Maya Binkin and Javier Molins in collaboration with the artists themselves. Conceived from the artists’ personal collections/studios, the exhibition is supported by international galleries and collections such as Gagosian Gallery, Goodman Gallery, Galerie Lelong, Lisson Gallery, Modern Forms, Victoria Miró Gallery, Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, Sean Kelly Gallery, New York, Tim Taylor Gallery, London, Tucci Russo Studio for Contemporary Art.
Moreover, the variety of artists present allows for the comparison of very different compositional techniques, such as painting, sculpture, drawing, ceramics, photography, and video, which express a variety of themes such as daily life, confinement, exploration of the human being, landscape, politics, religion, art history, literature, music, gender, violence, or the relationship between life and death.
The exhibition is sponsored by Fondazione Terzo Pilastro - Internazionale and is produced by Poema with the organizational support of Comediarting and Arthemisia.
