Savona joins Genoa and Rome in turning 2022 into a year entirely dedicated to the Baroque: the city of the Ponente responds in this way to the capital and the capital city, where the events linked to the Superbarocco project (a series of exhibitions and itineraries that will turn the spotlight on Liguria’s Baroque treasures) are being held, by approaching the theme from different angles with a major exhibition featuring ceramics, one of the specificities of the area (Albissola, one of Italy’s great centers of ceramics, is just behind Savona). Thus, from April 28 to August 28, 2022, the Museum of Ceramics in Savona hosts the exhibition Superbe Maioliche. Guidobono and the Splendor of the Baroque in Savona.
Produced with the contribution of the Agostino De Mari Foundation and under the patronage of the Municipality of Savona, the exhibition will take visitors to discover the life and works of one of the most important protagonists of Ligurian Baroque, Bartolomeo Guidobono (Savona, 1654 - Turin, 1709). With his artistic genius, Guidobono achieved, particularly through ceramics, the renewal that brought the decoration called “istoriato barocco” to its highest expressions. The exhibition will be dedicated to the reconstruction of the Guidobono’s artistic activity in Savona, through the ceramics in the Savona collection, magnificently placed in the hall he frescoed with Apollo and Diana on the Sun Chariot, enriched by unique objects from private collections of exceptional artistic value.
Within the Superbarocco project, whose main event is the Palazzo Ducale exhibition in Genoa’s La forma della Meraviglia, the Savona exhibition enriches the I Protagonisti section, which includes a series of exhibitions spread throughout Liguria. The exhibition, which runs parallel to the major exhibition at the Scuderie del Quirinale in Rome, is also connected with the exhibition Baroque Waves. Diocesan Masterpieces between 1600 and 1750, scheduled to take place in Albenga (Savona) and other venues in the west until fall 2022.
The Savona exhibition, curated by Donatella Ventura and with the scientific advice of Cecilia Chilosi (mediation and staging by Luca Bochicchio, Stella Cattaneo, Daniele Panucci and Donatella Ventura with the collaboration of Studio Gaggeroservente, educational and didactic services by Alessio Cotena and Marco Isaia, communication Valentina Foti), can be visited during museum opening hours: Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For info: 019-827724, info@museodellaceramica.savona.it, www.musa.savona.it/museodellaceramica/.
