The Candiani Cultural Center in Mestre presents from Nov. 25, 2023 to Feb. 25, 2024, the exhibition Buzzati, Venice and Pop Art, born from the collaboration between the Candiani Cultural Center, theDino Buzzati Association andCa’ Foscari University of Venice.
The exhibition aims to offer a unique perspective on the life and work of Dino Buzzati, among the most celebrated writers of the 20th century, through the gaze of Pop Art: the intent is to analyze how Buzzati, a Venetian by adoption, influenced and was influenced by this artistic movement born in the 1950s and 1960s, characterized by the use of bright colors and its affinity with mass culture.
Buzzati discovered American Pop Art at the Biennale, and then with his professional deformation as a reporter attentive to every detail, he observed it almost maniacally, traveling to New York to meet the major artists one by one, meeting them in their studios and jotting down every detail in a notebook of notes.
In addition to his profession as a writer, Dino Buzzati was a multifaceted artist who left an indelible imprint on Italian and international culture. The exhibition displays a selection of more than forty of his works of art, some never before exhibited to the public, giving visitors the opportunity to discover the painter and graphic designer Buzzati.
“I am a painter who, as a hobby, during an unfortunately rather prolonged period, has also been a writer and a journalist. Instead, the world thinks it is vice versa [...] But painting and writing for me are basically the same thing. Whether I paint or write, I pursue the same purpose, which is to tell stories,” Buzzati had said.
During the exhibition, there will be side events, including lectures, meetings with experts and performances related to or inspired by Buzzati and Pop Art.
The exhibition will be on view in the exhibition rooms on the third floor, Tuesday through Sunday, from 3 to 7 p.m. Free admission.
