"Ambienti/Environments": the environments of Lucio Fontana on display.

Ambienti/Environments: an exhibition at Pirelli HangarBicocca in Milan reconstructs ten spatial environments by Lucio Fontana.

Pirelli HangarBicocca, in collaboration with the Lucio Fontana Foundation, will host the exhibition "Ambienti/Environments. " This is an exhibition of Ambienti spaziali, rooms and corridors conceived in the late 1940s by Lucio Fontana (Rosario, Argentina, 1899 - Comabbio, 1968), and are perhaps the artist’s least known works.

Yet, according to Vicente Todolí, Artistic Director of Pirelli HangarBicocca and co-curator of the exhibition, these environments have the same importance as other works by Fontana, such as the so-called “Holes” and "Cuts," in that they are a break from the pictorial and sculptural tradition that the artist undertook and which have, subsequently, influenced other artists.

There are ten reconstructed environments in all, some of which are being shown for the first time after the artist’s passing (in fact, after Fontana exhibited them, the Spatial Environments were always destroyed). The exhibition is curated by Marina Pugliese, Barbara Ferriani and Vicente Todolí.

To admire these environments, one must travel to Milan to the Pirelli HangarBicocca at Via Chiese 2. Once opened on Wednesday, September 20 at 7 p.m., the exhibition will run from September 21, 2017 to February 25, 2018, with free admission, Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Info on the Pirelli HangarBicocca website.
