All the roads of the world in a 200-work exhibition at MAXXI in Rome

The Road. Where the World is Created is the title of the current exhibition at MAXXI through April 28, 2019, curated by Hou Hanru together with the museum’s curatorial and research staff. More than 140 artists and more than 200 works to compose the multicultural, polyglot, colorful, frightening, stimulating, deafening tale of the world’s streets, the true great laboratory of discussion, creation, confrontation, where the contemporary era is invented.

Works of art, architectural projects, photographs, performances, site-specific interventions and videos welcome the visitor in a succession of galleries that form a street dozens and dozens of meters long. A path organized by themes (public actions, daily life, politics, community, innovation, the role of the institution) fundamental to understanding the new functions and identities of the contemporary street. Starting from the belief that it is the place where the world is created, the space is analyzed as a manifesto of contemporary life, a scenario and privileged vantage point of the experience of everyday life, a landscape where the creative community and the city community give birth to a new community and a new world of urban creativity.
