Alexander Graf von Schlieffen at the Feuerle Collection: art and astrology in an exhibition series

The Feuerle Collection in Berlin presents a series of four astrological exhibitions and lectures by Alexander Graf von Schlieffen, March 13 through Nov. 9, 2025, exploring the link between art and astrology.

The Feuerle Collection in Berlin announces a project that interweaves art and astrology, presenting Alexander Graf von Schlieffen ’s (1964) series of four astrological exhibitions and lectures from March 13 to November 9, 2025. Curated by Désiré Feuerle, Painting and Astrology will explore for the first time astrology in the collection’s cultural program, an essential element of von Schlieffen’s artistic practice and a recurring reference in Western art since the Italian Renaissance.

The theme continues to attract considerable interest in contemporary society. Von Schlieffen, an artist and astrologer, embarked on his pictorial journey in the 1980s, with works that mix Italian Renaissance motifs and influences from American color field painting. His artistic practice reflects a deep exploration of symbolism, the connection between things, and mysticism. Parallel to his artistic career, von Schlieffen has undertaken the study of astrology since 1991, developing an in-depth understanding of the cycles of life and the philosophical dimensions of this discipline. The fusion of these two practices has mutually enriched both his artistic and astrological work.

Désiré Feuerle, who has known and appreciated von Schlieffen’s work since his early career, has selected works that will trace the painter’s evolution. The exhibitions will present both his early works and more recent creations. Feuerle’s curatorship features a refined use of light and space, creating a visual experience that reveals crucial aspects of von Schlieffen’s art in an intimate and sensory way. Astrological lectures will take place among the works on display, and will focus on the fundamentals of astrology as a discipline, while also exploring the artist’s specific research. Topics will include the transition from the age of Earth to the age of Air, the philosophical interpretation of astrological cycles, and the symbolic role of fungi as interconnected organisms, concepts that are also reflected in his painting practice.

The exhibition cycle will be divided into four distinct moments, with exhibitions and lectures taking place throughout the year:
