After Gio Ponti, MAXXI dedicates exhibition to Aldo Rossi, great architect

In Rome, MAXXI dedicates a major exhibition to Aldo Rossi, one of the most important architects of the 20th century.

After the exhibition dedicated to Gio Ponti, it is the great architect Aldo Rossi (Milan, 1931 - 1997) who is the protagonist of a major retrospective at MAXXI that analyzes the extraordinary theoretical and practical contribution of an “anomalous architect,” in the reconstruction of Berlin as in the debate in Barcelona, but places his studies within a broader tradition of national analytical culture and in relation to the most pressing issues of contemporary urbanity.

Cultural design, architectural projects, installations and domestic projects are the three main threads of a complex and multifaceted history in which many aspects emerge: training, teaching and research, building an international network, drawing as autonomous investigation, critique and legacy. On display are materials from the MAXXI Architettura archives as well as from archives and collections around the world: famous drawings, projects, writings and a spectacular sequence of models, a kind of imaginary city, a tangle of ideas, images, places, identity and memory.

The exhibition Aldo Rossi. The Architect and Cities runs from March 10 to October 17.
