Adolescent attributed to Michelangelo returns to Italy for second time

On display at the Alda Fendi-Experiments Foundation in Rome until March 2019 is Michelangelo's Adolescent.

Until March 10, 2019 at the Alda Fendi-Experimenti Foundation ’s headquarters in Rome, in the new Rhinoceros, theAdolescent, a marble sculpture attributed to Michelangelo from theHermitage in St. Petersburg, is on public display. It is anunfinished work, where finishing and polishing are missing, but equally extraordinarily beautiful.

The sculpture depicts a crouching boy attempting to remove a thorn from his foot and would have been made around 1530, as evidenced by the type of marble used, second-hand.

“I love my city, Rome, and I think culture is the best tool to get out of the difficulties in which it struggles today. Too often its wonders are under-appreciated, or even abandoned. With this loan, which inaugurates a three-year agreement with the Hermitage, I am happy to be able to give Rome something beautiful and rare,” said Alda Fendi.

TheAdolescent had only been exhibited once before in Italy, in 2000 at the Uffizi Gallery.
The exhibition is curated by Sergej Androsov, director of the Hermitage Department of European Art, organized by Il Cigno GG Edizioni with Villaggio Globale International.

Visitors can view theAdolescent by making reservations on the Foundation’s website: http://fondazionealdafendi-esperimenti.it/
