Infinito, a work by renowned contemporary sculptor Fabio Viale (Cuneo, 1975), arrives on display at the Cathedral Baptistery in Pietrasanta from August 6 to September 30, 2018. The Baptistery, a venue for contemporary art events conceived by curator Enrico Mattei, thus opens to the art of the Piedmontese sculptor, which with Infinito promises to engage in a fruitful dialogue with its host context, adding to and interacting with it. Infinito is a black marble sculpture representing two ringed tires, carved from a single block, that almost resemble two wedding rings and consequently the union of two people for a future procreation that will lead to the first of the sacraments of the Catholic Church, Baptism.
“It is,” the presentation reads, “a meeting of connections that create a short-circuit of emotional planes, generating a perceptual disorientation due to the reconsideration of the weight of the role of the exhibition space and the work in it. The viewer divests himself of his usual relational habits, confronting the work through modes conditioned by the bearer of intimate sacredness of the place and the unconventionality of the same, in terms of appearance and approach, giving life and uncommon emotions.”
Infinity can be viewed daily from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to midnight. Admission is free.
