A rediscovered masterpiece by Francesco Hayez will soon be on view in Trento, Italy

At the Buonconsiglio Castle in Trent one can admire the Madonna and Child, a rediscovered masterpiece by Francesco Hayez.

From November 9, 2018, to February 24, 2019, in the Castello del Buonconsiglio in Trent, the public will be able to admire a masterpiece thought to be lost by Francesco Hayez: it formerly belonged to the collection of Simone Consolati, who commissioned it for a family chapel and it was exhibited in 1831, the year it was made, at the Brera Academy.

It is a Madonna and Child set during the Flight into Egypt.

A period photographic image of the painting is preserved in the archives of the Buonconsiglio Castle.

The curator of the"Under the Sky of Egypt" exhibition, Emanuela Rollandini, said, "In this work Hayez has proposed the most traditional of subjects through a reinterpretation of the 16th-century tradition, between Raphaelesque models and refined references to Parmigianino-which were immediately highlighted by critics-that oppose the purest harmony of their forms to the Egyptian idol in the background, the result of an Orientalist inspiration that is as up-to-date as ever."
