It will be a “private” Picasso that will be put on display at the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa from November 10, 2017 to May 6, 2018. Picasso. Masterpieces from the Picasso Museum in Paris, this is the title of the exhibition, will put on display more than 50 works from the Musée Picasso in Paris, all arranged in thematic sections that trace the life and art of Pablo Picasso in all his stylistic phases.
From the African-inspired paintings of the very early years of the 20th century to the more Mediterranean bathers and the famous portraits of women of the 1930s and 1950s-the exhibition brings out Picasso’s poetics in all its overwhelming beauty.
In particular, these are works that Picasso kept with him throughout the years and his relocations, which accompanied him in the daily routine of his life, as clear traces of the deep art-life bond that distinguished him. Also on display are numerous photographs, portraying him alongside the works in the veritable creative workshops that were his various atélier, from his Parisian beginnings at the Bateau-Lavoir to the mas, the large houses in the Provençal countryside where he decided to spend his last years.
The exhibition is part of the Musée National Picasso-Paris’ extensive “Picasso-Méditerranée” project, an international cultural event that began in spring 2017 and will run through spring 2019. More than sixty institutions have imagined a series of exhibitions on Pablo Picasso’s “stubbornly Mediterranean” work.
