The Van Gogh - Multimedia & Friends exhibition starts in Turin, from January 26 to April 28, 2019, inside the new Spazio Lancia at 27 Via Lancia. It is an experience composed of different fruition spaces: the multimedia section; the Forever Vincent environment; the virtual reality section; the Room of Secrets; Vincent’s Space; the Fashion meets Van Gogh section; and the education area for schools.
Through large-scale images that envelop the viewer from all sides, the multimedia section, curated by Giovanna Strano, explores the work and life experiences of this prolific artist in the period between 1880 and 1890, interprets his thoughts, feelings and mental states during the period he spent in Arles, Saint Rémy and Auvers-sur-Oise, places where he created many of his masterpieces. These works are shown through ultra-high-definition detail, paying particular attention to their main features and allowing us to understand their use of color, technique and sources of inspiration. Synchronized with a powerful classical soundtrack, more than 2,500 large-scale images of Van Gogh will fill giant screens and walls fully immersing visitors in the vibrant colors and vivid details that make up the uniqueness of Van Gogh’s style. And the exhibition will engage not only sight but also hearing, with a soundtrack accompanying the visitor on his or her journey.
A virtual reality experience with Samsung Gear VR Oculus, which for the first time is offered to visitors of an exhibition dedicated to Van Gogh, will allow them to enter inside the works by perceiving every figurative and chromatic detail three-dimensionally. The experience will actively engage visitors and make them an integral part of the exhibition. In the new environment entitled Forever Vincent, the vision of the Master’s works and places will be accompanied by the voice of the Dutch painter, played by actor Francesco Di Lorenzo, an established artist in the Italian film scene. The Room of Secrets will display some original works by Monet, Renoir, Degas and Van Gogh himself from private collections.
In addition, the Room of Secrets will host 10 drawings by the Master. Faithful reproductions of works that have not been exhibited since 1987, either from life or as copies. Vincent’s Space, on the other hand, will display five works recreated using the same technique, tools and materials as the Master so that visitors can touch the paintings with their own hands. The section Fashion Meets Van Gogh, an encounter between Art and Art Couture, will feature an exhibition of 8 dresses that recall the Dutch artist’s most important works, curated by fashion art designer Gisella Scibona. Great importance is given to education with activities and paths specially designed for schools. The Master’s atelier will be recreated in the exhibition spaces, stimulating school groups and children to discover the secrets of the painters on display in the exhibition by becoming artists themselves for a day. The schools section is curated by theAltera Association.
