The Museo di Roma in Trastevere will hold a monographic exhibition dedicated to photographer Ara Güler (Istanbul, 1928 - Florence, 2018), showcasing the Turkish master’s black-and-white photographs.
A lucid observer of Turkish history and society, Güler bequeathed an archive of more than two million photos, of which a selection of about 80 images is on display, a major retrospective devoted in particular to the city of Istanbul, a section is reserved for portraits of famous people including, Federico Fellini, Pablo Picasso, Salvator Dalì, Sophia Loren.
The exhibition, open from January 30 to May 3, 2020, comes to Rome after exhibitions at the Saatchi Gallery in London, the Polka Gallery in Paris, Tofukuji Temple in Kyoto as part of the G-20 summit, and the Alexander Hamilton Custom House in New York in conjunction with theUN General Assembly. The next stop will be Mogadishu.
The exhibition is sponsored by Roma Capitale - Assessorato alla Crescita Culturale, the Sovraintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali and the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, in collaboration with the Ara Güler Museum and the Ara Güler Archive and Research Center. Principal sponsors of the initiative are Halkbank and Ziraat Bank, media sponsors are Sabah and Daily Sabah newspapers , and the official airline Turkish Airlines.
