A major retrospective on Remo Bianco at Milan's Museo del Novecento

Until October 6, 2019, the Museo del Novecento in Milan is hosting the exhibition 'Remo Bianco. Footprints of Memory'.

A retrospective exhibition on Remo Bianco ( Milan, 1922 - 1988), entitled Remo Bianco. The imprints of memory, curated by Lorella Giudici with the collaboration of the Remo Bianco Foundation, which traces the phases of the artist’s life and work through the more than seventy works on display that explore the theme of memory in a rich and surprising journey.

Raised and educated in the Milan of the economic boom, in an intellectually and culturally productive atmosphere, Remo Bianco traveled a life as a “solitary researcher,” as he called himself, always ready to delve into new themes and tackle original and daring artistic paths. For four decades, the artist experimented, multiplying expressive discourses and reinterpreting the most modern languages and materials in a totally personal way.

From the Impronte, made in the late 1940s and early 1950s with the intention of recovering “the humblest things that are usually lost,” to the Sacchettini - Testimonianze, objects of little value assembled and hung like traditional paintings. Also from the same period are the first three-dimensional works, the 3Ds, in transparent plastic material or glass and, later, on wood, sheet metal and colored Plexiglas.

The Tableaux dorés, constituting one of the artist’s best-known cycles, close the 1950s, years in which the first works of the Collages series also saw the light of day, leading us to the 1980s via the works encapsulated in the definition of Superstructural Art of the 1960s. Completing the itinerary are the Talking Paintings, canvases in some cases unprocessed in black or white cotton, in others impressed with photographs, on the back of which are placed amplifiers that, as the viewer approaches, are activated by emitting sounds or phrases recorded by the artist.

Complementing the exhibition is an interesting archival documentation with catalogs, posters, articles and period photographs.
