A major retrospective dedicated to Giovanni Boldini at the Complesso del Vittoriano

A major retrospective exhibition dedicated to Giovanni Boldini will be held from March 4 to July 16, 2017 at the Complesso del Vittoriano - Ala Brasini in Rome

It will be one of the most significant exhibitions of 2017 and one of the richest and most comprehensive anthological shows in recent decades that dedicated to Giovanni Boldini, which will be held from March 4 to July 16 at the Complesso del Vittoriano - Ala Brasini in Rome.

Curated by Tiziano Panconi and Sergio Gaddi, who have been collaborating on this project for a good four years, and organized and produced by Gruppo Arthemisia in collaboration with the Assessorato alla Crescita culturale-Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali di Roma Capitale, the retrospective intends to outline Boldini’s artistic career through the exhibition of more than one hundred and fifty works created by the Ferrara artist.

The works, which come from museums and private collections around the world, including the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, theAlte Nationalgalerie in Berlin, the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Marseille, the Uffizi in Florence, as well as the Giovanni Boldini Museum in Ferrara, illustrate the glamour and glitz of the Belle Époque; one example is his famous portrait of Donna Franca Florio (1924), a signed and dated work, a symbol of the Belle Époque and the special guest of the major retrospective.

Boldini’s works are juxtaposed with thirty works by artists contemporary to the Ferrara artist, such as Vittorio Corcos, Giuseppe De Nittis, Cristiano Banti, James Tissot, Telemaco Signorini, Federigo Zandomeneghi and Ettore Tito, in order to better frame the context and cultural framework in which Boldini produced his paintings.

The exhibition catalog is published by Skira.
