At the British Museum in London the exhibition Edvard Munch. Love and Angst, dedicated to the celebrated Norwegian painter Edvard Munch (Løten, 1863 - Oslo, 1944), author of the famous Scream.
The exhibition aims to be the largest exhibition in the United Kingdom in the past 45 years devoted to his etchings: a journey through his story and art.
His Scream has become a universal symbol of human anguish and has echoed through history for generations; it now has a life of its own.
Starting with the prewar cities of Oslo, Berlin and Paris, the exhibition aims to show how new ideas concerningpersonal and political independence give rise to a new voice. Rebellious and yearning for new experiences, Munch pursues an unconventional lifestyle. He travels across Europe and draws inspiration from the bohemian circles he encounters. His works mirror the rapidly changing Europe that he resonates with in his life experiences.
Edvard Munch. Love and Angst thus presents to the public the artist’s great skill in the art of printmaking through a remarkable body of work; his innovative techniques, use of color and somber subjects allow him to be called the first truly “modern” artist.
The exhibition benefits from a collaboration with the Munch Museum in Oslo.
