Palazzo Reale in Milan will host an exhibition dedicated to one of the greatest artists of the 20th century, Carlo Carrà (1881 - 1966), from October 4, 2018 to February 3, 2019.
Hailed as the largest and most significant anthological exhibition ever held on Carrà, visitors will be able to admire about 130 works by the artist from the most important Italian and international public and private collections.
The exhibition aims to reconstruct the entire artistic activity of Carlo Carrà, through his most important masterpieces: from Divisionist trials to Futurist works, landscapes, still lifes, and even the frescoes for the Palace of Justice in Milan, whose large preparatory cartoons will be on display.
His artistic activity will be traced through seven sections, each an expression of a period and a style, to emphasize how his life was entirely dedicated to painting.
The works on display will be accompanied by documents, photographs, letters and films to understand every aspect of his art.
The anthological exhibition is promoted and produced by the Municipality of Milan-Cultura, Palazzo Reale and Civita Mostre and is curated by Maria Cristina Bandera, an expert on Carrà and scientific director of the Roberto Longhi Foundation in Florence, with the collaboration of Luca Carrà, the master’s nephew, photographer and head of the Carlo Carrà archive, and is part of the Novecento Italiano palimpsest conceived by the Department of Culture for 2018.
