Entitled Soliloquio per due voci (Soliloquy for Two Voices ), the exhibition featuring Gabriele Landi (Schaerbeek, 1971) and Gianluca Sgherri (Fucecchio, 1962), the protagonists of a dialogue at Palazzo Magni Griffi, in Sarzana, on the occasion of Parallelamente, the program of exhibitions and events that each year precedes the Festival della Mente, one of Italy’s leading cultural festivals.
The exhibition presents a series of works that Landi and Sgherri have made in different periods and that, as they link together, draw a constellation capable of giving rise to a series of exchanges suspended between dialogues, monologues and soliloquies. Landi and Sgherri have known and collaborated for years: their first meeting took place in Fucecchio, Sgherri’s hometown, on the occasion of an exhibition the Tuscan artist was holding in the local Museo Civico.
“It must have been 1992,” Landi says, “when I first saw his small paintings in Enzo Cannaviello’s gallery in Milan. I have a very clear memory of this first encounter. His little squares, as he calls them, were arranged on a wall in no particular order as if to form an installation. I remember the sense of luminous magic that emanated from these microcosms dotted with letters, objects and figures floating in an undefined space.” It is a magic of light that the dialogue between the two artists seeks to evoke at Palazzo Magni Griffi through the juxtaposition of recent works, and is also intended to underscore the relationship that has developed between Landi and Sgherri over the years.
The exhibition is on view until Sept. 1, free admission, with hours 5:30-10:30 p.m.
