A merry-go-round in the Grand Gallery of the Reggia di Venaria, but instead of classic horses there are little birds: this is theinstallation by artist Valerio Berruti, entitled Nina’s Carousel.
A 7-meter-diameter sculpture inspired by ancient carousels, which the artist personally shaped. Birds, instead of horses, are symbols of everyday life and freedom, and are flanked by protagonists destined to take flight.
Nina’s merry-go-round represents Valerio Berruti’s film project of the same name, composed of some 3,000 hand-drawn drawings joined in sequence to become frames of a video. The animated short, co-produced by Sky Arte with a specially written soundtrack by Ludovico Einaudi, had its world premiere last year at MAXXI National Museum of XXI Century Arts during the Rome Film Festival.
The audience can admire it in the fairy-tale setting of the Reggia and listen to the soundtrack composed by Ludovico Einaudi through a mechanical music box. It can also see some of the exposed frames that make up the video animation.
The exhibition can be visited until Jan. 31, 2021 and is curated by Guido Curto is made possible thanks to the contribution of Lavazza. The short film, produced by Valerio Berruti and Sky Arte, is supported by Film Commission Torino Piemonte - Short Film Fund.
