From June 13 to October 6, 2019, Una diversa bellezza is on display at the Trastevere Museum. Italy 2003-2018, an exhibition dedicated to the work of photographer Emiliano Mancuso (Rome, 1971).
Curated by Renata Ferri, the exhibition presents four different bodies of work made over the course of fifteen years in which a sorrowfulItaly emerges, without illusions, perpetually oscillating between confirmation of the stereotype and the melancholy postcard.
Emiliano Mancuso has used different techniques and languages: black and white, color, digital or analog images. And even polaroids, important because in their immediacy they accompany the author’s transition from the still image to the moving image, which would make him, in the last part of his prematurely interrupted life, a filmmaker. Without abandoning his terrain of investigation, if anything amplifying it thanks to audio and video, Emiliano Mancuso traces a country woven of micro-stories, of experiences that appear to us naked in their sincerity.
The exhibition will feature an important selection of photographs from Terre di Sud, Stato d’Italia, Il diario di Felix and Le Cicale, along with screenings of the two documentaries Il diario di Felixand Le Cicale and a blob of videos made by the author throughout his travels: clips, fragments, interviews and monologues.
The exhibition is produced and organized by Officine Fotografiche Roma with Zona, Pcm Studio Produzioni video Roma and Postcart Edizioni, and with the collaboration of Emiliano Mancuso’s family.
