Palazzo Falletti di Barolo in Turin hosts, from December 6, 2024 to March 9, 2025, the exhibition AMAZING. 80 (and More) Years of Marvel Superheroes, celebrating 85 years since the birth of one of the world’s most important publishing houses, founded in 1939 by Martin Goodman. The exhibition is curated by Luca Bertuzzi and produced by ARES Torino, in collaboration with WOW Spazio Fumetto, Museum of Comics, Illustration and the Animated Image in Milan. Within the exhibition, the journey starts from the 1940s until 2023: these are the years that gave birth to unforgettable characters such as Spider-Man, the Hulk, Thor, Captain America, the Fantastic Four and many more.
On display are original plates, posters, memorabilia, gifts, toys and scenic enlargements dedicated to the best-known cartoons make up the visual narrative that led Marvel’s creations to inspire movies and television series. Also featured are 80 original plates by authors such as Jack Kirby, John Romita Jr., Steve Ditko, Alex Ross, and John Buscema, selected to tell the story of Marvel’s impact on the superhero comics genre and the artistic and narrative style it has created. Accompanying the works are also explanatory panels and timelines summarizing the major milestones in its Marvel history. The exhibition addresses an unprecedented approach that led over the decades to the creation of increasingly structured crossover sagas, up to the triumphant success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which adapts for film a way of constructing stories in use in comic books for years.
