Mimmo Paladino’s 104 drawings on Punchinello are on display in the Genovese Gallery of the Royal Palace in Naples from July 6 to October 3, 2023.
Curated by Flavio Arensi, the exhibition Paladino. I 104 disegni di Pulcinella presents drawings made 30 years ago by the Campania-based artist, who was inspired by Giandomenico Tiepolo’s album Divertimenti per li regazzi (1797). It is Paladino’s homage to the 18th-century Venetian masterpiece composed of 104 cards illustrating the adventures, death and resurrection of Punchinello. The drawings have recently been restored and were first shown in 1992 in an exhibition held at the Palazzo Liberty in Turin.
At the Royal Palace in Naples, the exhibition will be enriched with a new element: the 104 drawings will be joined by a newly created one, unveiled on the day of the opening. It is a drawing celebrating the victory of the Neapolitan team’s third football championship, entitled Scala Reale.
