Win a work by a great artist and help Civil Defense: the Academy of St. Luke's initiative

The Academy of St. Luke's launches an art lottery to help Civil Defense during the coronavirus emergency.

TheAccademia di San Luca, one of Italy’s oldest and most prestigious art academies, is launching an initiative to help Civil Defense during the fight against the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic: it is called #DaiUnSegno and is a lottery in which works by important names in Italian art, from Giulio Paolini to Franco Mulas, from Guido Strazza to Gea Casolaro, from Grazia Varisco to Pablo Echaurren, from Nicola Samorì to Tomaso Binga, from Achille Perilli to Gilberto Zorio, from Maurizio Nannucci to Gianfranco Baruchello and many others, among historicized artists and young artists, can be won. The lottery mechanism is very simple: each work is paired with a number, and the number is purchased with a 50-euro share. One can start buying one’s share from today, March 27: the week after the closing, set for May 1, there will be a draw, held at the Academy’s headquarters in Rome and in the presence of a notary.

To participate, therefore, one must purchase one’s share by paying 50 euros by bank transfer made out to the National Academy of St. Luke, to IBAN IT52K 01030 03200 00000 9007632, with the reason #GiveAsign, obligatorily specifying one’s data (first name, last name, telephone number, email), all by May 1. The transfer receipt should be kept.

The entire proceeds will be donated to Civil Defense: participating artists and Foundations have in fact chosen to donate their works. The works in some cases have been created for the occasion, in others have instead been chosen from the artist’s archives, are in A4 format (about 30 x 20 cm), and the technique is free.

“This initiative,” explains Francesco Cellini, president of the Accademia di San Luca, “gives participants the opportunity to access, in such a dark period, a small light: a work of art, a piece of our heritage that is also a testimony to the perennial need for beauty.”
