The Vincenzo Vela Museum presents on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019, from 5 to 10 p.m., When a Star Stops at the Vela, the usual solidarity market open to associations and NGOs, and at 8:15 p.m. the screening of the film Umarete wa mita keredo (I was born but...) made in 1932 by Yasujiro Ozu, with piano accompaniment by Francesca Badalini and an introduction by Marcello Seregni.
The initiative aims to take the audience on a journey around the world to lesser-known Japan, thanks to the exhibition Japan. Art in Everyday Life.
The fair market, now in its fifth edition, proposes this year a paper journey around the world through books and publishing projects edited and edited by associations and NGOs. The protagonist will therefore be the book in all its forms: from the travel book to the reportage from a distant country, but also audiobooks, virtual gift-books to be given to potential readers who, however, cannot afford to buy them, surprise books to be chosen by letting themselves be inspired only by a few clues on the cover. A dozen NGOs and associations from Italian-speaking Switzerland will therefore be present with their stalls at the museum, and the public will be able to access them for free.
In addition, starting at 4 p.m., an atelier is scheduled for the youngest children (ages 6 and up), during which they will be invited to create a small art book: compulsory registration at 058 4813044 and participation will cost 10 CHF.
In collaboration with Bi11 - Biennale dell’immagine and the Cineclub del Mendrisiotto, the Vela Museum will screen at 8:15 p.m. the classic in the Japanese master’s filmography, “the film that sanctioned for Ozu the definitive recognition of the critics,” as critic Paolo Mereghetti puts it; Morando Morandini ’s Dictionary of Films defines it as “one of the best among Ozu’s youthful films. The light brio of the comedy, due especially to the two funny, viscous child figures, does not conceal the bitterness of the themes, the lucid analysis of hierarchical rigidity in social and family relationships.” Viewing of the film will cost 10 CHF - reduced 8 CHF.
