OnWednesday, Aug.17 and Sunday, Aug. 21, 2022, the Selinunte Archaeological Park opens at dawn for the special visit The Dawn Spectacle at Selinunte - Music of the Rising Sun, curated by CoopCulture.
At the Greek archaeological site, a historical site of great evocative power where temples and Doric columns are surrounded by unspoiled nature among eucalyptus and tamarisk trees, visitors will have the opportunity to walk at sunrise guided by an archaeologist and accompanied by the musical notes of the most famous motifs, those that have made history and those of opera. Four operatic voices, with woodwinds, percussion and piano, will perform famous arias, folk songs and pop songs at sunrise. It will be sopranos Federica Maggì and Emanuela Sala and tenors Luciano Giambra and Hang Chan Hui, accompanied by Maurizio Maiorana (woodwinds percussion and vocals), Manuel Scarano (guitar and vocals) and Marcello Iozzia on piano who will accompany towards the dawn, following the musical dramaturgy by Giovanni Mazzara, who has chosen songs that go well with the setting. The path will start from Temple F and cross it to reach columns and ruins that occupy the eastern area from where the light seems to be suddenly born.
A unique experience that ties in with the work of archaeologists who just a few weeks ago uncovered important findings that shed new light on the history of the ancient city. “The Park of Selinunte is huge, evocative, deep, filled with history,” commented Park Director Felice Crescente. “This will be a way to discover it from its nocturnal heart. The discoveries of recent weeks have brought Selinunte to international prominence: now we will try to make it known in a whole new light.”
“We are bringing a tried-and-true and successful format to Selinunte, but we are also attempting a novel operation, the mixture of opera and pop at dawn,” explained Letizia Casuccio, general manager of Coopculture. “The visit will be an experience that will begin when the temples are still immersed in darkness, and will gradually continue as the light dawns, with the singers appearing as sudden visions. An experiment, that of CoopCulture, which can become a model of promotion and storytelling to be exported to other sites as well.”
The duration of the visit is one and a half hours.
