Venice celebrates Amedeo Modigliani with the immersive show Modigliani Opera Vision, curated by the Amedeo Modigliani Foundation. The event will run for two years (from Sept. 1, 2021 to April 2023) and will be held at theProvincial Institute for Children "Santa Maria della Pietà." Intent is to provide the viewer with a multiple enjoyment of art, immersive, structured as a true 270-degree cinema to narrate Modigliani’s artistic journey through innovative languages. Multimedia installations will take the audience into the artist’s life and works, thanks to the use of virtual reality, in a room with holograms in which a docufilm on the artist’s world will be screened.
On the second floor of the building there will be an area reserved for contemporary artists, who will be able to express their creativity on this occasion.
The Santa Maria della Pietà Provincial Children’s Institute will host the exhibition, which will be developed on three floors: the first dedicated to Amedeo Modigliani, the second will be a space reserved for contemporary artists who will be able to exhibit alternately during the two years, while the third floor will host a cultural hub that will also host debates and moments of in-depth study on the artist’s life.
Fabrizio Checchi, President of the Amedeo Modigliani Foundation: “This is an exhibition that starts after a period of closure due to the pandemic, and that’s why we thought of making it last two years. Modigliani’s artistic research and his evolution are closely linked to Venice, the city that the artist chose for his training, which is why we wanted to give a didactic value to this exhibition. It is time to start again precisely from the beauty of art.” The Amedeo Modigliani Foundation begins an artistic journey precisely in Venice, a city symbolic of restarting, a central place in the national and international art scene, chosen as a springboard for a structured project that will follow Italian and foreign itineraries of the Modigliani Opera Vision over time.
Marco Comito, General Director Amedeo Modigliani Foundation: “It is a very ambitious project that will give the opportunity to many contemporary Italian artists to express their creativity, we will host several delegations from all over the world who appreciate Modigliani’s art. The peculiarity of the exhibition is the fruition, that is, it will be an immersive exhibition with advanced technologies that will allow an approach to art also by young people, so with a major educational and popularizing role, as well as the involvement of contemporary artists who will alternate in the two years.”
Modigliani sojourned in Venice between 1903 and 1905, enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts, attended it infrequently, preferring places frequented by artists. His artistic production was quite copious, bringing with it the problem related to the forgery of his works after his untimely death. To date, an estimated 3,000 forgeries circulate worldwide.
Greta García Hernández, Chair of the Scientific Committee: “One of the most important topics that will be discussed concerns the problem of the forgery of his works in Italy and around the world. In recent years, analytical work is being conducted to recognize forgeries, and it is unquestionable that it must be a nonprofit work, which is why the Modigliani Foundation has espoused this work of clarification. The international community is aware that we cannot continue to profit, Modigliani is a heritage that belongs to everyone and it is everyone’s responsibility to solve this problem.”
