OnFriday, August 26 at 9 p.m., a concert will be held at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection to mark theanniversary of the famous collector’sbirth. Born Aug. 26, 1898, in New York City, Peggy Guggenheim chose Venice to spend the last 30 years of her life, from 1949 to 1979, at her home in Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, now the museum venue that houses her vast collection.
The Quartetto Prometeo, winner of the 2012 Silver Lion at the Venice Music Biennale, will perform. The Quartet was founded in 1993 and has since distinguished itself on the national and international stage, playing in the most important halls and festivals, including Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Musikverein, Wigmore Hall, Aldeburgh Festival, Prague Spring Festival, Mecklenburg Festival, Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Società del Quartetto in Milan, Amici della Musica in Florence, and Teatro La Fenice. The Quartet consists of Giulio Rovighi (first violin), Aldo Campagnari (second violin), Danusha Waskiewicz (viola) and Francesco Dillon (cello). The concert will be held in the sculpture garden with music by Stefano Scodanibbio, Benjamin Britten and Andrea Liberovici.
The event is free of charge, but reservations are required because seating is limited, and is for museum members only. In case of bad weather, the concert will be held at the Gesuati Church on the Zattere.
