From Saturday, Dec. 26, the halls of the Medici Riccardi Palace will host a series of concerts, promoted by the Metropolitan City of Florence and MUS.E, thanks to the collaboration with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Orchestra della Toscana, the Florentine Chamber Orchestra and the Contemporartensemble, and the Prefecture of Florence for the availability of the Charles VIII Hall.
Four appointments available for streaming on MUS.E’s YouTube channel, which always take place on Saturdays at 6 p.m., will fit into the palace’s surroundings, proposing an interweaving of art and music.
The first appointment on Dec. 26 will be held in the Chapel of the Magi and will feature the Orchestra of Tuscany. The string trio made up of Franziska Schoetensack (violin), Stefano Zanobini (viola) and Augusto Gasbarri (cello) will play Mozart, Bach and Laszlo Weiner to accompany the sacred procession that winds through Benozzo Gozzoli’s sumptuous fresco.
On Saturday, Jan. 9, the Florentine Chamber Orchestra quartet, composed of Neri Nencini (violin), Sara Margrethe Lie (violin), Niccolò Presentini (viola), and Leonardo Ascione (cello), will perform a Baroque repertoire in the Galleria degli Specchi, with music by Bach, Handel, Boccherini and Vivaldi in dialogue with Luca Giordano’s frescoes decorating the vault.
On Saturday, Jan. 16, in the Hall of the Madonnas with Child, the Contemporatensemble, founded by Mauro Ceccanti in 1992, will range among Marian compositions, from Gluck to Rossini, Mozart to Bach and Schubert, performed by countertenor Antonio Giovannini, accompanied on piano by Marco Gaggini.
On Saturday, Jan. 23, in the Charles VIII Hall, the notes of Schubert’s quartet Death and the Maiden, performed by Boriana Nakeva and Annalisa Garzia (violins), Lia Previtali (viola), Sara Nanni (cello), will be heard, thanks to Maggio Musicale, which in their harmonic unfolding recall Gaetano Bianchi’s fantastic decorations.
