Two days of study around the themes of museology will be held in Siena on November 16 and 17, 2023, at the Santa Chiara Lab auditorium: Museums as Laboratories of the Future, curated by Elisa Bruttini, director of Fondazione Musei Senesi, in collaboration with Department of Historical Sciences and Cultural Heritage of the University of Siena, School of Specialization in Historical and Artistic Heritage of theUniversity of Siena, Santa Chiara Lab and the patronage of University for Foreigners of Siena, Region of Tuscany, Province of Siena, Municipality of Siena, ICOM Italy for the 20th anniversary of Sienese Museums Foundation; SIMBDEA and Order of Architects of Siena.
In 2022, ICOM - International Council of Museums approved a new definition of a museum based on four main themes: conserve, interpret, research and exhibit. Building on these themes, scholars, professors, museum directors and experts in the field will discuss the challenges and opportunities facing museums today during the scheduled conferences: an opportunity for reflection that is part of the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Fondazione Musei Senesi. From practices of excellence to recurring criticalities, from large to small museums, the interventions intend to pose in a transversal and interdisciplinary way, crossing the different declinations of “preserving, interpreting, researching and exhibiting” and opening spaces for dialogue and sharing of experiences among different types of collections.
For students of the Doctorate in Art History UNISI-UNISTRASI and the School of Specialization in Historical-Artistic Heritage UNISI will be granted 2 cfu for each day. For members of the Order of Architects PPC of the Province of Siena will be issued 6 cfp for each day upon registration on the Portal.
In addition, on the two days of the conference, between 2 and 3 p.m., it will be possible to visit the Fab Lab of the University of Siena to see the prototypes developed in the European project Beaucoup, funded by the Active Assisted Living program. The project aims to make cultural heritage accessible to those who cannot travel to the museum due to disability or limited autonomy due to aging.
