Ahead, from October 30 to November 7, 2021, is the sixth edition of DAMA, an independent art fair that each year invites to Turin a group of international galleries called to relate to the city’s history. The 2021 edition of the fair, which stems from an update of the exhibition project born in 2020, with the intention of integrating the videos and performances of the Live Program with the works of artists represented by their galleries, devising a heterogeneous exhibition itinerary that, from the fifth edition, was to take place through a meeting of languages ranging from sound, performance, video and sculptural works contaminated by a program of conversations, to accompany the public toward a wide-ranging vision.
The program of this year’s edition is titled OPEN: in fact, the fair will take place in open spaces and places of culture, to better integrate into the social fabric of the city, relating to some symbolic sites of Italy’s history, and in the courtyards of some historical palaces, identified by artistic director Giorgio Galotti as ideal places to evolve the concept of interaction between past and contemporary, further actualizing and concentrating the proposal through a diffuse path.
What will be seen at the fair? DAMA will focus on works by Italian artists of different generations, bridging the time between the new generation and the established one, emphasizing the relationship between history and artistic research, united by forms that aim to recreate architectures activated by performative actions. The program is completed by the collaboration with Gianluigi Ricuperati, through interventions and conversations in three historic bookstores in the city and an evening video program inside a multiplayer store that will become for a few days an unusual stage for stories and a meeting point for practitioners, artists, intellectuals and visitors.
The fair’s scattered venues range from Palazzo Carignano, Palazzo Chiablese, Libreria Luxemburg, Libreria Gilbert, Libreria La Bussola, Isola space. On display, among others, artists such as Francesco Arena, Andrea Noviello, Paolo Pellion di Persano, Paolo Canevari, Ettore Favini and others. The talk program, Conversations, curated by Gianluigi Ricuperati and which will take place on a carpet-arazzo by Ettore Favini, features Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev (Nov. 4, Palazzo Carignano, 4 p.m.), Michele Masneri (Nov. 5, Palazzo Carignano, 4 p.m.) and Leonardo Caffo (Nov. 6, Libreria La Bussola, 7 p.m.). On Nov. 7, close with the event Dama superattico, from 6 p.m. to midnight at Nova Express Osservatorio on Via Santa Giulia: it will be possible to see Franco Marletta’s solo exhibition entitled Cosmist visions from dark observatory paintings and drawings (1936-2011-2021), curated by Gianluigi Ricuperati and Giulia Marletta.
