Throughout the summer season, until September, Trieste offers a wide variety of shows and events as part of the Trieste Estate 2021 program, promoted and organized by the Municipality of Trieste, Department of Culture and Tourism with the contribution of PromoTurismoFVG and also financed by the overall contribution of the Tourist Tax, as agreed at the Tourism Technical Table, between the Municipality of Trieste, PromoTurismoFVG and associations most representative of the city’s accommodation owners.
All Trieste Estate 2021 events are free admission, unless otherwise specified, and tickets for ticketed events can be purchased online at Ticketpoint (and at the outlet in Corso Italia 6) or TicketOne or Vivaticket or other operator depending on the show; any remaining free seats will be available for purchase on the evening of the show at the San Giusto Castle box office. For events with free admission, online booking on Ticketpoint (and at the outlet in Corso Italia 6) is recommended; again, any remaining free seats will be made available on the evening of the show at the Castle box office.
The city will offer performances and initiatives from a wide variety of categories: art, cabaret, cinema, culture, dance, music, operetta, sports and theater, including book presentations, poetry readings, exhibitions, including one dedicated to Leonor Fini, a surrealist painter, but also a renowned costume designer, set designer, illustrator and writer, set up until Aug. 22, 2021 at Warehouse 26 in the Old Port, film screenings, documentaries, short films, ballets, concerts, prose performances, monologues, happenings and special musical, film, art and science reviews.
The events will take place in the most significant places in the city: at the Castle of San Giusto from which one can enjoy a wonderful view of the entire city, since it is its highest point, at Magazzino 26, the largest building in the Old Port that has now become a cultural space, and at the Public Garden Muzio de Tommasini, linked to La Coscienza di Zeno by the famous Trieste writer Italo Svevo.
From the Salone degli Incanti - Ex Pescheria Centrale, built in 1913 to a design by architect Giorgio Polli as a fish market, and now transformed into a magnificent exhibition venue, the widespread exhibition project of the Cracking Art collective, known for its environmental commitment and practice of regeneration, unfolds throughout the city: in fact, their works are all made of plastic, which, transforming from a simple everyday material that is potentially harmful to the environment, becomes a decorative element and source of inspiration.
Until October 17, 2021, during the widespread exhibition entitled Incanto, more than 120 works of various sizes invade the most characteristic places and spaces of Trieste. Starting from the Salone degli Incanti, from which the exhibition takes its name, where an invasion of colorful snails takes over the large room in a fairy-tale spirit, other brightly colored animals populate the most significant points of the Friulian capital, transforming it into a true open-air gallery. Amazing creatures thus take up residence by enchantment or magic in the city’s historic architecture. Snails, swallows, rabbits, crocodiles, elephants, penguins, wolves and frogs become the protagonists of a journey under the banner of nature and respect for it. Leaving the space at Riva Nazario Sauro, visitors are invited to take a path that will lead them from Piazza Hortis to Piazza Cavana, Piazza Verdi, Piazza della Borsa; from the Palazzo della Cassa di Risparmio di Trieste - now the headquarters of the Fondazione CRTrieste - to Piazza Ponterosso to Via delle Torri, until they reach the Hilton Hotel in Piazza della Repubblica; along the way they will encounter different works that invite them to visit and re-appropriate urban areas with a renewed and magical spirit.
For this reason, the exhibition of colorful Cracking Art installations is designed and intended to be free and outdoors, so that it can be accessible to everyone. In addition, every Sunday at 11 a.m. there are free guided tours for groups to the exhibition, departing from the Salone degli Incanti and exploring the various installations around the city (reservations required).
Incanto is promoted by the City of Trieste in collaboration with Arthemisia and is curated by the Cracking Art collective.
