Three-day opening ceremony for Parma Italian Capital of Culture 2020

The year of Parma Italian Capital of Culture 2020 officially kicks off with a three-day long inauguration: Saturday, January 11, Sunday, January 12 and Monday, January 13.

Saturday, Jan. 11, opens with the nation Parma gathered in the historic center, which will welcome all the cities of Italy in a grand parade dedicated to the “words of culture” (the procession will start from Parco Ducale and travel along Via D’Azeglio as far as Piazza Garibaldi, where Mayor Federico Pizzarotti will greet participants and launch the jingle made by Raphael Gualazzi for Parma 2020, and at the end there will be a series of videomapping and concerts among words, poetry and music for the city). Sunday, Jan. 12, will be dedicated to literature as there will be meetings with authors (including Stefania Auci and Gianrico Carofiglio) and a series of initiatives that will reach the places furthest from the center (hospitals, the prison, the smallest hamlets) thanks to the project Sulla Linea della Cultura: Fermate per tutti (On the Line of Culture: Stops for Everyone); in the afternoon, an institutional ceremony with President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella will be held at the Teatro Regio. Finally, on Monday, January 13, it will be the turn of the Journey to the Golden City with which museums and art places will be transformed into stages for unusual narratives.

The three days will also include the opening of three exhibitions, Time Machine. Seeing and Experiencing Time (more information here); We, Food, Our Planet: Fueling a Sustainable Future; and Parma is the Gazette.

Finally, during the three-day event, three symbolic places in the city will be enlivened by videomapping that the City Council donates to the city: Piazza Garibaldi will feature The WORDS of Culture, while Piazza Duomo will be lit by TEMPUS. Il tempo del lavoro a multimedia projection on the facade of the Cathedral, both produced by Kifitalia, Idea Factory and Cantiere Idea; in Piazzale della Pace #22.2.22 VIDEO MAPPING FOR THE MONUMENT TO VERDI, curated by Karmachina and produced by Teatro Regio di Parma.
