The sixth edition of Trieste Photo Days will be held from October 22 to November 10, 2019. Special guests two legends of street photography, Martin Parr and Nick Turpin.

Kicking off the sixth edition of Trieste Photo Days, an international festival of urban photography, which will be held from October 22 to November 10, 2019 at various exhibition venues in the city; opening weekend full of events planned.

This edition will feature dozens of exhibitions by Italian and foreign artists for a total of about 1,700 photographs on display and the presence of two great protagonists of international street photography for the first time in Trieste, Martin Parr and Nick Turpin.



The main theme of the festival will be urban photography, from architecture to street, from the study of the territory to social commitment, addressed through workshops, screenings, contests, portfolio readings, book presentations, and meetings with guests from all over the world.

The traditional events will be joined by the Photo Days Tour outside the city: more than 480 photos by 175 authors from all over the world, the best photos and projects of the URBAN 2019 Photo Awards contest semifinalists, will be exhibited in three large group shows in Aquileia (Council Hall), Cividale del Friuli (Ristori Theater and Monastery of Santa Maria in Valle - UNESCO site) and Cormòns (Territory Museum), as well as a fourth group show at Trieste Airport in Ronchi dei Legionari.

The Trieste Photo Fringe, on the other hand, will be a diffuse festival with venues in the city center exhibiting group and solo exhibitions by international photographers: 28 exhibition venues for more than 580 photos. And there will also be a photographic tribute to Leonardo da Vinci with the project Leonardo’s Ideal City at DoubleRoom.

In honor of Martin Parr and Nick Turpin, there will be a major tribute exhibition Short Street Stories at U.Veruda Hall: more than 100 photos paying homage to the style of the two authors taken by 173 photographers from around the world.

Martin Parr is one of the most famous documentary photographers of his generation, a member of the Magnum Photos agency since 1994, with more than 200 published books and work exhibited at Tate Modern, Centre Pompidou and MoMA New York. As chairman of the URBAN 2019 Photo Awards jury, Parr will select and award the overall winner of this competition on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 8 p.m. at Xenia Hall. On Sunday, October 27 at 12 noon, Parr will talk with the festival’s Artistic Director Angelo Cucchetto in an exclusive lecture at the Revoltella Museum Auditorium.
Nick Turpin, the festival’s other guest of honor, is the founder of the international collective iN-PUBLiC, which has played a significant role in the modern renaissance of street photography since the early 2000s. At Trieste Photo Days, Turpin will hold the StreetShoTS workshop and a meeting with the public on Sunday, Oct. 27, at 3 p.m. at the Xenia Hall.
