The Republic of Wonders staged along the city of Venice

A collective action and traveling performance along the streets of Venice will take place today, May 22, 2018. It is about The Republic of Wonders.

Today, May 22, 2018, at 6 p.m. a performance will be held atCa’ Foscari University in Venice to mark the opening of La Repubblica delle Meraviglie, a project created by the winners of the 2017 Sustainable Art Prize, Sasha Vinci and Maria Grazia Galesi.

It is acollective action and a traveling performance along the city of Venice, curated by Diego Mantoan and Paola Tignon, with the intention of creating wide resonance to reflect on the contradictions of the city and the stories of those who built it.

Through flowers, a metaphor for beauty, transience and fragility, Vinci and Galesi bring to life the Republic of Wonders, which “wants to be a land in which to imagine forms of social renewal and sustainable development for a pacified society, where culture dominates and regulates people’s lives”; they take up themes such as environmental, social and political sustainability.

The performance will be divided into five acts set in different places in the city of Venice and accompanied by a harmonic symphony, composed for Ca’ Foscari University by the artists in collaboration with musician and composer Vincent Migliorisi.

The Vinci/Galesi duo ’s project is being realized in Venice precisely on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the founding of Ca’ Foscari University, and the performance is part of the 2018 Sustainable Development Festival promoted by the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development scheduled nationwide between May 22 and June 7.
