From July 11 to September 29, 2019, the ninth edition of the international photography festival Cortona On The Move is open to the public. Like every year, dozens of exhibitions will be located between the city’s historic center and the Fortezza Medicea del Girifalco. The festival is organized by the cultural association ONTHEMOVE, under the artistic direction of Arianna Rinaldo.
The event, which has the patronage of the Region of Tuscany, the Municipality of Cortona and the Province of Arezzo, is realized with the support of Intesa Sanpaolo, main partner for the second consecutive year, and Canon Italia, Digital Imaging Partner since the 2017 edition.
Cortona On The Move has always been characterized by its interest in contemporary photography, but with a continuous attention to the incessant evolution of the photographic language, which this year too will showcase works capable of opening the mind, the heart and the senses. Through exhibitions, events and meetings with the great protagonists of the field, the festival wants to position itself as a space for reflection and visual storytelling of the world in which we live.
In this ninth edition, the artistic director focuses attention on the relationship between people, landscape and territory, through the language of contemporary photography, the works of great masters and historical archives. The transformation of places speaks of us: the environment around us reflects our thinking, our actions and our history. The works on display at Cortona On The Move 2019 document the complex and multifaceted relationship that raises questions about the present, the future and the past.
The search for original forms of visual communication, continues with the second edition of ARENA - Video and Beyond, with the support of Canon Cinema Eos and National Geographic Society (Presenting Partner), a section dedicated to experimental videos, installations and transmedia works, created by photographers working between photography, film and technology. It is curated by Liza Faktor.
The 2019 edition of the festival sees some international collaborations with: theInstitut d’Estudis Baleàrics and Conselleria Cultura Participacion I Esports for the promotion of the culture of the Balearic Islands; Magenta Foundation, a Canadian nonprofit publishing house, active in the promotion of Canadian artists on a global scale; and theItalian Cultural Institute of Toronto.
